1836 LG "5" Capped Bust Half Dime XF-45

The 1836 Capped Bust Half Dime is a classic early American silver type coin, struck during the final years of the Capped Bust half dime series. This example features the Large "5" variety, a distinguishing characteristic of certain 1836 half dimes referring to the size of the "5" in the denomination on the reverse. Graded XF-45, the coin retains crisp detail in the hair curls, cap, and eagle feathers, with only light wear on the highest points. Some original mint luster may be visible in the protected areas of the design.
