This 1838 Coronet Head Large Cent is a classic early American copper coin struck during the reign of the Coronet (or Matron Head) design introduced in 1816. The obverse features the iconic left-facing Liberty portrait with a coronet inscribed "LIBERTY," surrounded by thirteen stars, while the reverse displays a wreath encircling the denomination "ONE CENT" above "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA." The catalog reference 1042.D25-A identifies a specific die marriage for this date, making it of particular interest to early American copper specialists and large cent collectors alike. A solid example of this long-running series from the pre-Civil War era.
