The 1861-S Seated Liberty Half Dollar is a classic mid-19th century United States coin struck at the San Francisco Mint. The obverse features the familiar seated figure of Liberty holding a shield and a pole topped with a liberty cap, surrounded by thirteen stars and the date 1861 at the base. The reverse displays a heraldic eagle with spread wings, clutching an olive branch and arrows, with "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" arcing above and "HALF DOL." below. The S mintmark is visible on the reverse below the eagle. This example grades VG.
