1827 Coronet head cent D12 940.D12

This 1827 Coronet Head Large Cent is a classic example of early American copper coinage. Struck during a period when the cent was a substantial, hand-fed coin, the Coronet Head design features Liberty wearing a coronet inscribed "LIBERTY" on the obverse, surrounded by stars, with a plain reverse wreath encircling "ONE CENT." These early large cents are popular with collectors of American type coins and early U.S. copper.
