This 1831 Large Cent is the Large Letters variety, identified as Newcomb-9 (R-2), graded Very Fine-20. The Large Letters designation distinguishes this die marriage from the Small Letters varieties of the same year, and the R-2 rarity rating indicates it is relatively obtainable among date collectors. At VF-20, the coin displays moderate to considerable wear with the high points smoothed but the major design elements still clear and pleasing.

Coin Grading is Subjective, and should be treated as an opinion of grade. We use ANA Grading Standards as our Reference.
