1855 Brothel Token VD4A

This 1855 Brothel Token features the Braided Hair cent obverse design, with "LIBERTY" on the coronet and the date 1855 below the portrait, surrounded by stars. The reverse reads "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" around a wreath enclosing "ONE C*NT" — the altered spelling being the defining characteristic of this class of novelty token. A distinctive and conversation-worthy piece of 19th-century Americana for the exonumia collector.
