This is a 1862 $100 Confederate States of America Treasury Note, cataloged as Fr. T-41 and popularly known as the "Hoer Note" for the engraved vignette of field workers hoeing crops that dominates the upper center of the face. The note was printed by Keatinge & Ball of Columbia, S.C., and is issued from Richmond. It carries the "Six Months after the Ratification of a Treaty of Peace" obligation text and bears interest at two cents per day. A portrait appears at the lower left, and an allegorical female figure stands at the right. Two manuscript signatures — one for Register and one for Treasurer — appear at the bottom of the face, along with manuscript serial numbers in red ink and a plate letter "Z." The reverse shows a stamped "Interest Paid to 1 January 1865" notation and a handwritten endorsement, indicating the note's interest coupons were tracked and recorded during its circulation period. The face retains clear design elements and legible text throughout.
